Solar-powered water-cleaning robots

Solar-powered robots will soon clean Argentina’s waterways like ports, rivers, and lagoons.

La Plata National University and waste management company Recyclamar Pampa Argentina partnered for the project to address the country’s plastic pollution problem.

The new robots can clean surface waste down to about 16 inches deep.  It is just the proper depth to round up discarded bags, bottles, microplastics, and even floating hydrocarbons like those in oil spills, which are the major pollutants in waterways.

The robot functions just like the home robot vacuum cleaner but is created in a way that can manage the disturbances in the water.  The robot can also recharge its batteries even while it’s operating.

Right now, people are hopeful that the new solar-powered robots will be solid warriors in the battle against plastic.

Are you hopeful about this innovation too?  Let us know what you think.
