During the Tesla AI Day on August 19, the CEO Elon Musk revealed plans for a humanoid robot that would make our everyday lives much easier and potentially free us from physical labor.
The robot, so far referred to as the Tesla Bot, will be 5 feet 8 inches tall, weigh 125 pounds, walk at 5 miles an hour and lift up to 150 pounds. It is intended to be friendly and created so you can easily run away from it or overpower it.
A prototype is expected to come out sometime next year.
Musk claims the robot will be able to perform most of the tasks that currently occupy our everyday lives: cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping and more. But also physical labor.
As a result, we could soon find ourselves living in a world where working is a choice, not a necessity. So, if you don’t feel like going to work, just send your robot slave instead.
Utopia, right? But, this development also brings a host of potentially problematic and far-reaching issues.
For instance, people who couldn’t afford to buy a Tesla Bot themselves, might end up losing their job to someone else’s robot.
Additionally, people who have money or access to capital, can buy an entire army of slave bots, causing entire neighborhoods to go unemployed.
