A new TikTok trend called “tadpole water” has people drinking a mix of water, lemon juice, and chia seeds to help with weight loss.
The chia seeds, which swell in water and resemble frogspawn, are high in fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, and nutrients. They can promote fullness, aid digestion, and improve heart health, making them a potential tool for reducing calorie intake. However, chia seeds can cause digestive issues, pose a choking hazard if not soaked, and may interact with certain medications. While the health benefits of chia seeds are real, the slimy drink isn’t necessary—chia can be added to other foods without the unpleasant texture.
