Sugar gel for hair growth

Scientists have discovered a potential new treatment for hereditary-patterned baldness while researching the wound-healing properties of deoxyribose, a sugar that naturally occurs in the body.

At the University of Sheffield and COMSATS University in Pakistan, researchers noticed that applying deoxyribose to mice’s wounds accelerated fur regrowth. This led them to test deoxyribose on male mice with testosterone-driven hair loss, resulting in significant hair regrowth comparable to minoxidil, a common hair loss treatment.

Deoxyribose gel promoted robust hair growth by improving blood supply to hair follicles, offering a promising new avenue for treating hereditary baldness.
