Type 2 diabetes affects over half a billion people globally, and while there’s no cure, a significant number of patients can achieve remission through lifestyle changes.
A year-long program by England’s National Health Service (NHS) found that a diet centered on low-calorie soups and shakes can put 32% of participants into remission, even without medication. Participants in the program lost an average of 35 pounds, leading to stable blood glucose levels.
The NHS is considering expanding this successful program, which shows that with the right support, significant weight loss and diabetes remission are achievable.
