A recent study found that overweight or obese individuals who have exercised regularly for two years or more have healthier abdominal fat compared to non-exercisers.
Regular exercisers had fat deposits with more blood vessels, less harmful collagen, and fewer pro-inflammatory cells, indicating healthier fat storage, even if the fat amount remained unchanged. The study, involving 52 adults, also showed improved insulin sensitivity and oxygen delivery in exercisers’ fat tissue. These findings suggest that consistent exercise can remodel fat tissue, benefiting metabolism and reducing inflammation, although more research is needed.
