Energy from a black hole

A new theory suggests that we can soon tap the immense energy produced by rotating black holes.

The theory is that when magnetic field lines disconnect and reconnect in just the right way, they can accelerate plasma particles to negative energies.  Large amounts of black hole energy can then be extracted.  One way to get this energy is from the ergosphere, or the region outside a black hole’s event horizon.  Energy yielded by an escaping particle would be theoretically extractable.  Another way is to electromagnetically obtain power via the magnetic field around the black hole.

For now, black hole energy generation is not yet practically feasible.  If this becomes possible in the future, the power supply would evidently be assured in the civilizations to come.

Do you think this theory will become a reality, or will it remain a concept?  Let us know your thoughts.
