A Filipino inventor created solar panels that can make energy without direct light.
The technology consists of a sheet made from vegetable waste. The vegetables have sensitive chemicals that turn UV light from the sun into visible light that generates electricity. The multi-colored light resembles that of the Aurora Borealis, the reason why the invention is called AuREUS.
The solar panel can quickly charge two smartphones and even power major systems when used to cover a whole building. Even when it’s cloudy, rainy, or out of direct sunlight, it can still generate energy when the UV light bounces off a source, like a skyscraper or a field. Unlike bulky solar panels, this new technology is thin, flexible, and can be molded into any shape.
