New research suggests that adopting a Mediterranean diet, which is high in fresh vegetables and low in processed foods, can have a positive impact on the biological age of your brain.
The study involved imaging the brains of 102 participants who followed three different diets: a Mediterranean diet rich in nuts, fish, and chicken; a Mediterranean diet with additional items like green tea; and a diet based on healthy dietary guidelines.
The researchers found that for every 1% of body weight lost, the participants’ brains appeared almost 9 months younger. Although the exact impact of these changes in brain connectivity on brain function is still not fully understood, the study highlights the importance of a healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet, in maintaining brain health.
