Scientists developed a new plant-based spray coating for food that could replace plastic packaging.
To create the solution, researchers extract fiber-based carbohydrates using a heating device resembling a hair dryer. They then spin and shrink the fibers and coat them around any type of food. The product can take any shape or form that’s required.
The beauty of the new packaging material is that it is environmentally sustainable and suitable for food transportation. Once the coating wraps around the food, it remains sturdy, preventing food bruising. It also has antimicrobial properties that help prevent bacterial contamination.
Do you think this new biodegradable food packaging spray will be adopted on a large scale and help us deal with our plastic problems? Please share your thoughts in the comment section below.
