An autonomous delivery robot called Nuro could soon bring groceries and food to your doorstep.
Nuro uses sensing cameras, radar, lidar, and thermal cameras, providing a 360-degree view of surroundings to detect anything from pets to foliage. The delivery robots that are still in pre-production are all electric and run on 100% wind power. A touch screen on the side allows users to accept an order or maybe buy food from an autonomous vehicle.
In case of an accident, the robot is designed with external airbags to protect pedestrians. Its front end crumples to minimize damage to another object. Fortunately, while roaming the streets of Ann Arbor, Michigan, they have not run into anything despite crossing streets and maneuvering on pedestrian walkways. They even manage during chilly weather with cleaning sensors that retain sensitivity despite the snow.
