A recent study reveals that mushrooms may talk to each other about food or injury through their pulsing behavior.
A scientist at the University of the West of England implanted electrodes into four different types of fungi to investigate if they communicate just like human beings. He found out that the patterns in the messages are surprisingly similar to human speech. In fact, they are so sophisticated that they actually resemble words. This led to the discovery that a mushroom’s vocabulary may contain around 50 words.
While the findings are intriguing, the mushrooms could be saying nothing as past studies show their pulsing behavior when moving nutrients. More research and testing are needed to prove the existence of the Mushroom language. Nevertheless, this is an exciting development.
