Researchers from Yale University developed a new treatment that helps patients with hair loss disease regrow their hair.
Hair loss disease or alopecia is a disorder in which the body’s immune system attacks hair follicles, causing rapid hair loss.
The researchers used a common arthritis drug called baricitinib. The medication worked by disrupting the communication of immune cells involved in harming hair follicles.
The study is currently in Phase 3 of the clinical trials. It is the final testing required to be considered for US Food and Drug Administration approval.
With more than 200,000 cases emerging each year in the US alone, this new medication can alleviate suffering from the awful disease. Similar medicines are also being studied to treat other skin disorders.
