Using advanced eye scans to detect diseases early

Researchers from Indiana University, Northwestern, Stanford, and New York Eye and Ear Infirmary are developing next-generation ophthalmoscopes to detect early signs of diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and Alzheimer’s through eye scans. Funded by a $4.8 million NIH grant, these advanced devices can identify health markers by observing subtle changes in the eye.

Combined with AI, this technology could provide faster, non-invasive diagnoses, aiming to make early disease detection accessible during routine eye exams within a few years.
