Solar panels are now being installed on balcony rails in Central Europe, marking the 70th anniversary of solar cell integration into society.
Data from Euronews shows that 400,000 German households have connected their balconies to solar panels, with 50,000 PV devices added in Q1 2024 alone. This easy-to-install technology offers benefits like generating power at a shallow sun angle, lower installation hazards compared to rooftop panels, and suitability for locations with limited sunlight or structural constraints.
Solar balconies contribute around 200 megawatts of electricity in Germany, complementing the country’s strong solar culture and energy transition efforts.
