Revolutionary ‘moonwalking’ shoe takes walkers to the speed of a run

Designed by an American tech start-up called Shift Robotic, a new type of shoe called “moonwalkers” allows people to walk at the speed of their run

Dubbed as the world’s fastest shoe, moonwalkers have a set of eight wheels per shoe. It moves your feet as if you were on a moving walkway at an airport. They accelerate the normal walking pace to around 6.8 mph, around the clip of a comfortable run. The wheels move only when you do and only when you reach a regular walking stride. The wheels won’t move if you’re on stairs, entering or exiting public transit, or in crowded areas.

Simple gestures like raising or pivoting the heel, and switching the shoe from locked to moving mode, allow a rather seamless transition between speed and safety. Inside the shoes are algorithms that can learn the wearer’s natural walking pace in under 10 steps.

The price points are not available at the moment, but they will start shipping this summer of 2023. What do you think of this new type of shoe?
