3d printed wind turbines

G.E Renewable Energy will create taller wind turbines using 3D printing.

Building taller wind turbines is not new, but it was never realized because of transportation and cost factors.  Modern technology now makes it possible.  The 3D printer will be transported to the site, and the concrete base will be printed there.  The larger-than-usual concrete base will support longer steel towers, between 150-200 meters high.  The tubes are adjustable and flexibly engineered to absorb wind like a modern skyscraper.

The innovation will allow the construction of more wind turbine sites while cutting transportation and labor costs.  It will also enable the creation of taller wind turbines that can reach heights where winds are stronger, without interference from trees or buildings.  The greater height will also allow for longer blades that can harvest more energy.
